Hard Face to Face Reviews
Randy Brown certainly is not a musical clown, and this CD is worth the trip to town. His music puts the H in Honky and the T in Tonk.
There are plenty of cover songs done very well; two of note, "Ophelia" (Track 2) from The Band and (Track 3), "Honky Tonk Mood Again", from Jim Lauderdale. There are others done equally well, and if these covers were a blanket, they would keep you nice and warm.
As for original material, there are a few of them like (Track 4), "Hard Face To Face", (Track 8) "Going Down Drinkin" and (Track 13), "Cuttin The Rug". The title track, "Hard Face to Face" is quite good speaking the truth concerning over indulgence and the guilt that goes with it...it is a Hard Face to Face!
Like I said about the H and the T, there are plenty of drinkin', lost loves and the like going on in many of the tracks (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12 and 14). "This Guitar Is For Sale" is a great sad one about the life of some guitars. Track 11, "Rodeo This", gives the gals out there a lift along with some of that Texas defiance.
"Cuttin' The Rug" (Track 13) does exactly that with that wonderful Texas swing going on. To boot, we have the assistance of Mr. Tommy Alverson, whose boots would be hard to fill.
So what can I say...this one has it all, great music and great vocals. Randy Brown and his band put the T in Texas, the D in Drinkin, the S in Swing, the R in Redneck, must I go on? You get the picture, now go buy the CD.

"Since I am a HUGE Merle Haggard fan, I would have to be really bowled over to play a Hag tune by any other singer on KTFW, but I was impressed by Randy Brown’s cover of Merle’s "I Won’t Give Up My Train", it's one of my favorites on his new CD. Randy puts his own spark to it & all the other classics on the CD."
